Rory Goshorn, Psy-D, MA, MFT - Clinical SupervisorRory Goshorn, Psy-D, MA, MFT Clinical Supervisor Rory is the Clinical Supervisor at ABC Recovery Center. He has a Masters and Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Rory is former adjunct professor at College of the Desert where he taught drug and alcohol studies. In addition to his work supervising counseling interns and seeing ABC patients, Rory also maintains a private practice in Palm Springs.

 

Shay Wenk, MA, MFTI - Lead TherapistShay Wenk, MA, MFTI Lead Therapist Shay is a certified domestic violence counselor and has worked with victims throughout the community for the past three years. She has worked with adults, adolescents, and families. In addition, Shay has a background in somatic experiencing therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, applied behavioral analysis and play therapy. Before coming to ABC Recovery Center, She worked as a lead therapist at Women’s Transitional Living Center, the largest domestic violence shelter in Orange County. She received her bachelor’s degree from UCLA and her Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the California School of Professional Psychology.

 

Sylvia Iribe, MA, MFTI - TherapistSylvia Iribe, MA, MFTI Therapist Sylvia works at ABC Recovery Center as a therapist and group facilitator. She helps patients learn techniques and tools to manage and overcome their mental, emotional, and social problems. Sylvia holds degrees from Imperial Valley College and San Diego State University, and earned her Master's Degree in Psychology from The University of Phoenix.

 

Dr. Bruce Merkin - Educational CoordinatorDr. Bruce Merkin Educational Coordinator Dr. Bruce Merkin is a 1982 graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency training at Temple University Hospital in 1985. He then began practice in general Internal Medicine in rural West Virginia. In the summer of 2004, Dr. Merkin moved to Cleveland to begin Addiction Medicine fellowship training at Case School of Medicine. He joined his fellowship mentors Drs. Ted Parran and Chris Adelman in practice with GMA Consultants in Cleveland. His clinical work has encompassed both Addiction and Internal Medicine, and he has served as Medical Director at Glenbeigh Hospital of Rock Creek, Ohio. Dr. Merkin has presented numerous lectures on a variety of addiction-related topics to medical students, physicians and nurses, as well as counselors and EAP professionals.

 

Margo Addeo, CAS II - Lead CounselorMargo Addeo, CAS II Lead Counselor Margo is currently the Outpatient Lead counselor for the ABC Recovery Center. As the Outpatient Lead Counselor, she has expanded the program to include different specialized recovery groups in the Valley. These groups include: adolescents, senior citizens, and most recently, an outpatient group for the GLBT community in Palm Springs. Margo has been an addiction counselor for seven years at both ABC Recovery Center and The Betty Ford Center.

 

Serenna Stone, CAS - CounselorSerenna Stone, CAS Lead Counselor Serenna has four years of experience in the recovery field. She began her career working for Active Recovery Counseling as an out-patient advocate. Serenna worked for Michael’s House as a lead residential counselor for two years specializing in dual-diagnosis cases. She joined the ABC Recovery Center in June 2010 as a residential counselor. She enhances our current program by bringing her unique combination of skills and experience in innovative therapeutic approaches. Serenna is a certified addiction counselor and has her certification in domestic violence. Serenna is working on her Bachelor of Human Services at the University of Phoenix.

 

Jeff Anderson, CAS - CounselorJeff Anderson, CAS Lead Counselor While serving in the US Army as a co-pilot in scout helicopters, Jeff was assigned as the Non Commissioned Officer to his squadron’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division. In addition to his current position as Male Resident Counselor, Jeff has also previously worked as a Detox Manager at ABC Recovery Center. As facilitator of the relapse prevention and behavior modification programs, he infuses unique and innovative therapeutic approaches to evidenced based treatments. Jeff graduated at the top of his class at the California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources Institute in 2009 and became a Certified Addiction Specialist in 2010. Jeff is currently pursuing a degree in psychology.

 

Ally Aiton, CAS - CounselorAlly Aiton, CAS Counselor Ally is one of our residential counselors. Ally received her B.A. in Family Life Education from California State University at Long Beach and previously worked with families and children in the medical field as a child life specialist for seven years. Ally is a Certified Addiction Specialist and has been certified in the Matrix Model Intensive Outpatient Program.

 

Johnny Courreges, CAS - CounselorJohnny Courreges, CAS Counselor Johnny is one of the newest additions to the staff at ABC Recovery Center. He is a primary residential counselor for the men’s program. Johnny was trained through the California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources Institute and is a certified addiction counselor.

 

Andrea Rickert, CAS - Patient AdvocateAndrea Rickert, CAS Counselor Andrea has been a staff member at ABC Recovery Center since 2009. She is a graduate of the CAARR Institute and is a Certified Addiction Specialist certified counselor. During her time as an intern, and now as a staff member, Andrea has assumed many roles including house mother, detox advocate and resident advocate.
